Common Questions

Volunteer FAQ

Do I need previous experience to volunteer?

No previous experience is required for most programs. Our team provides orientation, training, and guidance before you begin your placement. Some specialized projects may require specific skills or qualifications.

Will I stay with a local family?

It depends on the program and your preference. Many placements offer optional home-stays with local host families — Maasai, Chagga, Swahili or otherwise, depending on the community that hosts the project; others use a shared volunteer house. This is confirmed before you book.

What's included in the program fee?

Airport pickup, accommodation, most meals, in-country orientation, 24/7 emergency support and project materials. Flights, visas and personal spending are not included.

Can I combine volunteering with a safari?

Yes — most volunteers add a Serengeti, Ngorongoro or cultural village safari at the end of their placement. Our team can book this alongside your application.

Six weeks at the wildlife clinic taught me more about veterinary field work than two years of lectures — and staying with a local family afterward, I never once felt like a tourist.
